Dash AI Overview

Dash AI is the NimbusDash assistant. Use it from the dashboard to ask questions in natural language, adjust the grid, and create or update AI-generated charts.

Dash AI is available only when your administrator has enabled it and your NetSuite role is allowed to use it. If Dash AI is disabled or unavailable, the Dash AI navigation item is hidden.

You can open Dash AI in two ways:

  1. Click Dash AI in the left dashboard navigation.
  2. Press Option + D on macOS or Alt + D on Windows and Linux.

When Dash AI opens, the cursor moves to the Message field so you can start typing immediately. Press the same keyboard shortcut again to close Dash AI.

See Keyboard Shortcuts for other dashboard shortcuts.

Dash AI shows a status message near the title:

  • Loading Dash AI settings… while settings are loading.
  • Dash AI is disabled. when the assistant is turned off in Settings.
  • Dash AI is not enabled for your role. when your role does not have access.
  • Load a grid to begin. when no dashboard grid is loaded.
  • Ready when you can send a message.

You can send messages only after a data source has loaded and the grid is ready. If the status shows Load a grid to begin., open or create a dashboard and load data first.

  1. Type a request in the Message box.
  2. Click Send.
  3. Read Dash AI’s response in the chat.
  4. If Dash AI proposes a change, review the Preview Changes section.
  5. Click Apply to make the change or Dismiss to ignore it.

If Apply Mode is set to Auto Apply, supported changes may be applied immediately when Dash AI can resolve all required column mappings.

The preview explains what Dash AI intends to change. It may also include:

  • Warnings when Dash AI adjusted or ignored part of the request
  • A note about unchanged grid properties
  • Chart details when a chart is part of the same response

Review the preview carefully before applying changes, especially when filters or grouping will significantly change the visible data.

  • Preview/Explain shows proposed grid or chart changes before they are applied. Review the preview, then click Apply or Dismiss.
  • Auto Apply applies supported changes automatically when Dash AI can resolve all required column mappings.

Undo restores the most recent applied Dash AI change:

  • For grid changes, NimbusDash restores the previous grid state from before the last apply action.
  • If the last action also changed a chart, chart undo behavior is handled separately depending on what was applied last.

If undo fails, Dash AI shows an alert with the error message.

Use Clear to reset the chat history.

Dash AI can propose changes to supported grid state, including:

  • Filters
  • Sort order
  • Row grouping and aggregation
  • Pivot mode
  • Column order, visibility, sizing, and pinning

Dash AI applies only supported grid properties. The preview may list properties that were left unchanged.

Sometimes Dash AI cannot tell which dashboard column matches your request. When that happens, the preview shows column choices such as Category, Metric, or Split By.

Choose the correct column for each mapping, then click Apply. Dash AI will not apply chart-related changes until all required column choices are selected.

Try prompts such as:

  • Summarize this dashboard
  • Show only open opportunities over $10,000
  • Sort by amount descending
  • Group by sales rep and hide the internal ID column
  • Filter to this month and show the top customers by revenue
  • Suggest a bar chart of revenue by region
  • Create a gauge of total sales this month vs last month
  • Show revenue by department this quarter vs last quarter as a table

For chart creation and editing, see Creating AI Charts. For period-over-period comparisons, see Comparative Charts.

When you edit or focus an AI-generated chart, Dash AI can show an Editing chart banner with the chart title. This tells Dash AI which chart you want to update in your next message.

Use Clear in the banner to stop editing that chart context.

You can also open Dash AI from an AI chart widget using the chart menu. This sets the active chart and opens the assistant.

  • Dash AI works from the dashboard context available at request time. It does not see data you have not loaded into the dashboard and cannot access records outside the loaded data source.
  • Dash AI may ask for column clarification when multiple columns could match your wording.
  • Not every natural language request maps cleanly to grid state. If a preview looks wrong, dismiss it and refine the prompt.
  • AI can make mistakes. NimbusDash shows a reminder below the message box for this reason.

The text below the message box shows what kind of dashboard context may be sent with your request, such as:

  • Schema and grid state only
  • Schema, grid state, and capped sample rows
  • Schema, grid state, and capped filtered rows

Administrators control these settings in Settings.
